The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Today's Homework:

Section 9- I didn't get a chance to hand it out, so we'll push it to class time tomorrow.
Section 10- p. 52 and 53 in packet on simile, metaphor, and personification.
Section 6- p. 54 and 55 in packet.
Section 7- p. 54 and 55 in packet. 

All classes are working with the poem "Identity," byJulio Noboa Polanco.  The poem introduces one of the major themes we'll be working with for the first quarter.  In class, we'll also be working with text based evidence in written answers.

If you were in ELA today (sections 6,7,8), here's homework:

Complete pages 51,52, and 53 in packet on simile, metaphor, and personification.  

Also, here are the notes we took in class today:

literal language- when speech or writing means exactly what it says. Ex. The pencil is on the desk.

*figurative Language- speech or writing that is not meant to be taken “literally.” Ex. The pencil is the key to your future.

  simile- comparing two unlike objects using “like” or “as”
    Ex. The crowd roared like a lion.

  metaphor- comparing two unlike objects without using “like” or  “as.”
    Ex. He is a computer.

  personification- giving non-human things or ideas human/living characteristics.
    Ex. The basketball danced around the rim.

imagery- mental pictures that are created with words.

tone- the writer’s attitude towards a subject.

mood- the emotion you feel when reading something.

alliteration- the repetition of beginning consonant (not vowels) sounds in words.
  Ex. Sally sells seashells by the seashore.

Welcome Back!




Welcome to our class website for 2014/2015!  I trust everyone had an exciting and restful summer.  Check this site often for any important information, assignments, definitions, or news specific to things going on at JWB or in my classes.  Good luck and have a great year!

Today, I met with sections 6(blue), 7(red) and 8(green).  We went over rules, regulations and expectations.  Section 6 received their lockers as well.
