Tonight's Homework:  Finish reading chapter 9 of TKAM. 

Extra Credit Opportunity:  Read the following quote from chapter 9 (pages 75 and 76) and answer the following question in a paragraph.

     "If you shouldn't be defendin' him (Tom Robinson), then why are you doin' it?"
       "For a number of reasons," said Atticus.  "The main one is, if I didn't I couldn't hold up my head in town, I couldn't represent this county in the legislature, I couldn't even tell you or Jem not to do something again."
       "You mean if you didn't defend that man, Jem and me wouldn't have to mind you any more?"
       "That's about right."
       "Why?"

Explain what Atticus means.  What does him defending Tom have to do with telling Scout and Jem what to do?  What lesson is he trying to teach Scout about right and wrong?
