Tonight's Homework: Read chapters 14 and 15 of The Giver.
Extra Credit Opportunity:
Read this quote from chapter 14 and answer the following question in a well developed paragraph. Remember that we can't take for granted that this society knows the simple things that we do.
"He fell with his leg twisted under him, and could hear the crack of bone..."
"Then, the first wave of pain. He gasped. It was as if a hatchet lay lodged in his leg, slicing through each nerve with a hot blade. In his agony he perceived the word 'fire' and felt flames licking at the torn bone and flesh."
Explain how/why Jonas is experiencing pain associated with fire when he has clearly broken his leg in a sledding accident.
